If you want to work from home I believe you've made a wise choice. This has been my chosen form of making a living and I don't regret making that choice back in 1999.

A home based business involves some investment of either time or money. With the price of gas like it is and the job market changing so rapidly, working from home is a smart choice.

I've worked from my house since I was 19 years old and honestly I don't know how to work any other way. The thought of working long hours for a steady paycheck seems so foreign and unnatural to me.

Here are 5 ways you can make a living working with a home based business.

1. Network Marketing

Network Marketing is a popular choice for a lot of people. You can get started with very little out of pocket expense and be in profit mode in your first week. All of the training, marketing materials and websites should be taken care of. But don't think you can just sit on you butt. It's work.

2. Freelance work.

Websites such as freelance.com and elance.com create amazing opportunities for anyone to work from home. You can write articles or post on forums. If you have some more advanced skills you can do webdesign or document preparation, etc. This is competitive so be prepared. But once you find someone who likes your work you can continue working for them for a long time.

3. Real estate investment.

Unlike network marketing real estate investment will take some capital to get started. But, in certain markets you can make a killing buying low and selling high. There is a learning curve. So if you haven't done this before, you really need to partner with those who are already in the game.

4. Buy a franchise.

Franchising was once considered a scam if you can believe it. People didn't know what to make of it. Since then however, franchising has grown into a multi billion dollar industry. Why? Banks have traditionally loaned for franchises because of their proven sales history. This is also why a franchise may be a good choice for you. But just like real estate investment, you'll need some capital to get started. But once you do get started you'll have a better chance of succeeding because of the insider secrets you'll learn about the industry you've chosen.

5. Home Internet Business

My personal favorite is running a home internet business. There are lots of ways to make money online. You can buy and sell on eBay, you can blog and make affiliate commissions, or you can work for others through freelance work. My suggestion is to find a way to leverage your time and income so that you aren't forced to be in front of a computer the rest of your life. Try to find a way to make money while you do other things.
